Magazine commentary

In preparation of releasing the June issue of the World Links Zimbabwe magazine, I would like to share the May Issue magazine. The May issue being the second attempt at publishing came out better than the initially copy. Of course the quality of the magazine is going to keep improving with subsequent copies.
the May issue profiles Sipho Tazvitya, sales and marketing personnel.

After reviewing the feedback from clients of the first issue, a decision was made to shorten the length of the mag. From now onwards, we are going to be running only four stories per issue. There are going to be a personal stories as well, those that profile the team behind the scenes here at World Links. For any one who is interested in getting the May copy and other future copies, get in touch with me in the comment section.

The magazine is free and catalogs our products as well as other services that we provide.

THRASS in action : Eaglesvale primary school

On 28 February WLZ's THRASS team were invited to Eaglesvale primary school for a showcase the school was having. Several headmasters from the Masvingo province were present. The reason for the event was for the Eaglesvale headmaster, Mr. Bvumbe, to share with the other headmasters the reason for the success of the students at his school.
Among the activities showcased was a THRASS lesson. Mr. Bvumbe is a THRASS enthusiast and was rather keen to share the program with his fellow headmasters. According to him the program had impacted the manner in which English is taught at his school and has thus helped his students in articulation, proper pronunciation and proper spelling. His argument was based on how widely English is spoken in the world, and how being able to speak it can give, especially third world, students an advantage when competing for higher education places and even jobs on the global market.
The THRASS lesson was fun and engaging but what struck most people, including me, was how well the children spoke the language. Since the lessons were for show, we did not tour the entire school, just one grade six and seven class. The children in these classes spoke English so well and with so much confidence, it was encouraging.

THRASS is a newly introduced program in Zimbabwe and thus might bring doubt to many. But those bold enough, like Eaglesvale primary school, have begun reaping the rewards of the program.

The Grange Christian School THRASS training

The THRASS training at the Grange primary school was a very energetic and interactive session. The training was supposed to begin at 0830 hrs but  by 0800 almost all of the participants were present. Despite the dreary weather, it rained consistently through out the day, the atmosphere in the school's boardroom, where the training occurred, was light to the point of being jovial. The training sailed smoothly.

Mr. Sibanda, the Grange headmaster, had insisted on having his teachers trained THRASS to be able to effectively and correctly teach the students English. His greatest wish is to have the students that pass through his school to have a very strong educational foundation that can allow them to compete at a global level, given how increasingly the world is becoming a global village.
Mr. Sibanda was very pleased with the workshop and requested another training. The teaching staff also were pleased with the training and how eye opening it was for them. Many of them commented on how much of an impact the training will be to their students.

OUR NEW OFFICES

A Date with Chaminuka primary School

WLZ technical teams installing machines at Chaminuka Primary School's computer laboratory.

In moving on with our vision, to provide ICT education and resources to a generation of learners, World Links Zimbabwe (WLZ) donated fully equipped desktops to Chaminuka Primary school in Chitungwiza. Our technical team, the men in white waistcoats, installed the machines at the school's computer laboratory and did a test run, as well as show the children and their teachers the basic skills for operating a machine.
Our goal is to equip children from a young age with a adequate skills to function in a world with fast paced technology that is increasingly evolving. The computers were only a small step on our part to assist the young ones's leap into the digital era. We are going to continue working with them, as well as schools countrywide, to prepare a generation with skills that give them a chance to participate on a global scale.
